In reply to AliceK. Usually dried lily flowers last very long time (like years, but they will slowly lose fragrance). The dried ones will look quite brown, and the color lightens up once you soak them. A lot of time if you see very pale lily flowers at grocery stores, they are actually the bleached type. The best way is to soak them. They should be earthy and does not have other funny smells.

Hi, Maggie! I hope you and your family are feeling better. I have everything for this recipe, but my lily flowers lok much browner than yours. I think they are old. What kind of shelf life do they have? How do I tell if they are too old to use?

I love your recipes and your instructions. Could you put together a “Chinese pantry” list of all the various ingredients you use, showing the English name and the Chinese characters name? I go to a good Asian market, but many items show only the Chinese characters. Having a “pantry list” that I can refer to in one place would be more than fantastic! I hope everyone feels better soon!
